Where is the heck is Cabarete?

Cabarete, Dominican Republic is located in the providence of Puerto Plata on the north coast of the island of Hispaniola.  It was officially founded in1835 by a forward thinking spirit from Florida, Zephaniah Kingsley.  He came to Dominican Republic during Haitian’s rule of the island with 53 slaves that he freed from his own plantations.  He believe every man, no matter color of their skin deserved to live free.  The spirit Cabarete that began with that very intrepid soul, still lives in the locals and local foreigners that live here today.

What makes Cabarete so Awesome?

Cabarete, Dominican Republic is know as “The Adventure Sports Capital of the Caribbean!”  The consistent afternoon trade wind blows in more than just surfers, windsurfers and kite surfers.  It blows in a a cool, hip wave and wind tribe that is devoted to being extreme.  As the sun starts to set, happy hours start.

Cabarete boasts a Bohemian counterculture devoted to sun, fun, surf, wind, and good times.  The mood here in Cabarete is youthful, friendly, and laid back.  Locals here are friendly and inviting.  Navigating the town in any state of sobriety is quite easy.  There is only one road (Calle Principal) and a beach (Playa Cabarete).  Everything can be reached by foot, bicycle, or motoconcho (local name for a motorcycle taxi).

Does Cabarete have more do than surf?

There are plenty of activities in and around Cabarete in case the waves go flat (which is not often).  Learning to kite surf is an excellent addition to your waterman’s skills.  The afternoon trade winds here make this the world’s most premiere spot to learn kiting.

eXtreme Hotel in Kite Beach, Cabarete has lots of activities to offer those looking to get the most of their vacation time.  eXtreme Hotel has a circus school, that offers trapeze and arial silk classes.  The hotel also has an excellent gym, Rogue Fitness Cabarete that offers both personal and group fitness classes, as well as yoga classes.  The beach front as the best school to learn to kite surf in the country, The Kite Lounge.  The restaurant is beach front and serves the best mojitos  in Cabarete.  If none of that sounds interesting there is a 6 foot covered skate half-pipe called “6 feet under” to boot.

Adventure activities such as canyoneering, cascading, zip lining, caving, kayaking, stand up paddle, and snorkeling  boarding located are near to Cabarete.  You can even take the day off from surfing and go white water rafting in near by mountain town Jarabacoa.
