Playa La Preciosa – Winter Surfing Caribbean Perfection!

Winter Surf Caribbean style with budget in mind

Winter Surfing Caribbean style is the image of surfing you have in your mind when see that bar of surf wax at your local shop labeled “tropical”.  I live on the north coast of the Dominican Republic in a town called Cabarete.  I came here in search of  a paradise for winter surfing.  That is exactly what I found.

During the winter months the swells come from winter storms that bash the Northeastern Seaboard.  As New York gets pounded by Jack Frost, the north coast of the Dominican Republic receives long period north swell from Mother Ocean.  The water temperature here in the Dominican Republic during the winter months averages 79˚F (26˚C)  with the air temperature 75˚F (25˚C).  Leave your wetsuit at home, that’s boardshorts weather!

It is only a 2 hours flight from Miami and 3 hour flight from New York.  Making it a place that you could spend your weekend.  While everyone else is shovelling snow, you could be surfing in paradise and sipping cold beers with your toes in the sand.

Other things that make this a true winter surfing paradise;  The locals are friendly and inviting, everyone is always “traquilo”- chillin’!  The place is cheap.  A beach front place at eXtreme Hotel  comes board rental, lessons if needed, and transportation to near by Playa Encuentro, which is the main surf beach of the Dominican Republic.  All this you your still under $100 a day.

Surf Cabarete is all about surfing in the Caribbean.  We have surf packages that fit most budgets and have variety of other activities to do while you are not in the surf. Cabarete, Dominican Republic is a true winter surfing Caribbean paradise.  I love it here and know that once you come for a visit you will too.  Contact us for more information about winter surfing Caribbean.
